Papčo’s works on view in the Biennale Gherdëina 6th pay a tribute to the mountains’ heroes. A series Citizens, executed in bronze and wood, consists of sculptural portraits of mountain climbers, named Jaroslav, Miroslav, and Andrej. The figure of Andrej had been placed by the artist up on the rocky hills of the Dolomites’ Cortina and is available to the viewers through a lifestream installed in Circolo.

The figure of Jaroslav had been placed at Col de Flam by the artist and Andrej had been placed up on Cortina d’Ampezzo rocks and is available to the viewers through a lifestream installed in Circolo artistico e culturale in Ortisei.

A series Absolute presents silent anti-monuments - sculptural versions of the mountaineers’ belongings, fetishizing their presence through the items of typical high mountain clothing which protects the climbers against extreme wind and low temperature. Papčo personalizes as well as mythologizes his protagonists, emphasizing the ethical and corporeal aspects involved in the challenge of a vertical space. The mountains appear as simultaneously a physical/ethical entity, a site of an extreme existential experience, as well as a mythical construct - a phantasmagoria, a desire, a dream, a mental excess. Papčo’s post-romantic take at the solitary gesture of mountains’ climbing transmits an act of learning from the mountains (as well as from the other natural phenomena, such as the sea or oceans), as an act of resistance and collectivity, described by the philosopher Michel Serres as follows: “In the high mountains, my guide taught me the comfortable cold. ‘If you curl up into a ball’, he said, ‘if you defend yourself and get dressed, the enemy will penetrate down to your liver: cold is more invasive than you. No. Trasforma il contro in un con. Accarezza la roccia come fosse un’amante e ti aiuterà e ti offrirà delle prese. E tu la scalerai con il cuore leggero. Come un camoscio. Vola nell’aria, con un deltaplano o un windsurf, con un’ala a delta o un kitewing. Come un uccello”».

La serie Absolute presenta silenziosi “anti monumenti” che feticizzano la presenza degli alpinisti attraverso interpretazioni scultoree dei loro effetti personali come l’abbigliamento da alta quota che li protegge contro il vento estremo e le basse temperature. Papčo personalizza e mitizza i suoi protagonisti, enfatizzando gli aspetti etici e corporei comportati dalla sfida di uno spazio verticale. La montagna appare, allo stesso tempo, un’entità fisica ed etica, il luogo di un’estrema esperienza esistenziale, e un costrutto mitico: una fantasmagoria, un desiderio, un sogno, un eccesso mentale. L’interpretazione post romantica che Papčo propone del gesto solitario della scalata trasmette un atto di apprendimento dalla montagna (nonché da altri fenomeni naturali come il mare o gli oceani), insieme all’atto di resistenza e collettività descritto dal filosofo Michel Serres come segue.

Die Serie Absolute zeigt stille Anti-Denkmäler – skulpturale Versionen der Habseligkeiten von Bergsteigern, die deren Präsenz durch typische Hochgebirgskleidung, die die Kletterer gegen extremen Wind und niedrige Temperaturen schützt, darstellt.
Papčo personalisiert und mythologisiert seine Protagonisten und unterstreicht die ethischen und physischen Gesichtspunkte beim Bezwingen des vertikalen Raums. Die Berge erscheinen als eine physische und ethische Einheit, ein Ort der extremen existenziellen Erfahrung und zugleich als ein mythisches Konstrukt – eine Phantasmagorie, ein Begehren, ein Traum, ein mentaler Exzess. Papčos postromantischer Bezug zum Topos des einsamen Bergsteigers überträgt den Akt des Lernens von den Bergen (und von anderen Naturphänomenen wie dem Meer oder den Ozeanen) in einen Akt des Widerstands und der Kollektivität, die der Philosoph Michael Serres wie folgt beschreibt:
