Work benches were a good starting point for obser-ving the working environment of the woodcarvers of the Val Gardena. In their workshops I discovered some very old tables with a very long history behind them, that had been handed down over many gene-rations.The installation is based on three different working environments: one linked with the colonial history of South Africa, one about the formation of the Dolomites, and the final one about the mountain lands-cape, superimposed here over the New York skyline.

I banchi da lavoro sono stati un punto di partenza per osservare l’ambiente lavorativo degli intagliatori della Val Gardena. Nei loro laboratori ho scoperto tavoli molto vecchi, legati a una lunga storia o tra-mandati da diverse generazioni. È un’installazione creata da tre situazioni di lavoro diverse: una legata alla storia coloniale in Sud Africa, una alla formazi-one delle Dolomiti e l’ultima al paesaggio di mon-tagna qui sovrapposto allo Skyline di New York.

Die Arbeitstische waren ein guter Ausgangspunkt, um das Umfeld der HolzschnitzerInnen kennenzu-lernen. In ihren Werkstätten habe ich sehr alte Ti-sche entdeckt, die mit einer langen Geschichte ver-bunden sind und über mehrere Generationen hinweg weitergegeben wurden. Die Installation ist aus drei unterschiedlichen Arbeitssituationen heraus entstan-den: eine ist mit der Kolonialgeschichte Südafrikas verknüpft, eine mit der Entstehung der Dolomiten und die letzte mit der Berglandschaft, die hier über die Skyline von New York gelegt wird.
