Pakui Hardware is the name of the artist duo, consisting of the two artists Neringa Cerniauskaite (*1984, Lithuania) and Ugnius Gelguda (*1978, Lithuania), which exists since 2014 and whose name refers to a goddess from Hawaiian mythology. One of Pakui Hardware’s preferred subjects is regenerative medicine and its technologies. They place the human body in a virtual relation to non-human discourses, be it animals or plants, and also technological discourses, somewhere between science fiction and mythology. At the Biennale Gherdëina 7, the two artists present three works entitled Thrivers, a series of figures that fuse human limbs with various bodies of extremophiles. These are representations of unicellular organisms that thrive under extreme and hostile environmental conditions such as extreme cold, heat, acidity or radiation. As such they bring us messages regarding future scenarios. Additionally, they will present a new work especially made for the Biennale Gherdëina 7, entitled Antidote, three wooden sculptures based upon the artists’ signature language of an organic and biomorphic form. By combining natural and artificial material, sterile and organic forms, the artists transform design, biology and art history into hybrid and weird creatures.

Pakui Hardware è il nome del duo di artisti nato nel 2014 formato da Neringa Cerniauskaite (*1984, Lituania) und Ugnius Gelguda (*1978, Lituania), il cui nome fa riferimento a una dea della mitologia hawaiana. Pakui Hardware affronta il tema della medicina rigenerativa e delle sue tecnologie tra fantascienza e mitologia, portando il corpo umano in un contesto virtuale non umano - animale e vegetale. Combinando materiali naturali e artificiali, forme sterili e organiche, gli artisti trasformano il design, la biologia e la storia dell’arte in creature ibride e strane.

Pakui Hardware esplora la plasticità dei corpi, le loro potenzialità ancora sconosciute. Esplorano il modo in cui le diverse tecnologie si sviluppano, sperimentano e regolano queste potenzialità del corpo. 

Alla Biennale Gherdëina 7 il collettivo Pakui Hardware presenta una serie di nuovi lavori dal titolo “Antidoto” realizzati in Val Gardena per la Biennale Gherdëina 7. Si tratta di tre sculture in legno dalla forma organica e biomorfa. Combinando materiali naturali e artificiali, forme sterili e organiche, gli artisti trasformano il design, la biologia e la storia dell’arte in creature ibride e strane.

 Inoltre presentano una serie di sculture in vetro e pelle, dal titolo “Thrivers” (2020), che fondono le membra umane con vari corpi di estremofili. Si tratta di rappresentazioni di organismi unicellulari che prosperano in condizioni ambientali estreme e ostili come il freddo glaciale, il caldo, l’acidità o le radiazioni, e che ci portano messaggi riguardanti scenari futuri incerti.

Der Name Pakui Hardware des seit 2014 bestehenden litauischen Künstlerduos Neringa Cerniauskaite (*1984, Litauen) und Ugnius Gelguda (*1978, Litauen) bezieht sich auf eine Göttin aus der hawaiianischen Mythologie. Das Kollektiv beschäftigt sich mit dem Thema der regenerativen Medizin und ihrer Technologien, und stellen den menschlichen Körper in einen virtuellen Zusammenhang zu nichtmenschlichen - tierischen wie pflanzlichen - wie auch technologischen Diskursen, zwischen Science Fiction und Mythos. Indem sie natürliche und künstliche Materialien, sterile und organische Formen kombinieren, verwandeln die Künstler Design, Biologie und Kunstgeschichte in hybride und merkwürdige Kreaturen.

Auf der Biennale Gherdëina 7 präsentieren Pakui Hardware eine Reihe neuer Werke mit dem Titel „Antidote“, die in Gröden hergestellt wurden. Es handelt sich um drei Holzskulpturen aus organischen und biomorphen Formen. Weiters präsentieren sie auch eine Reihe von Skulpturen aus Glas und Leder mit dem Titel „Thrivers“ (2020), die menschliche Körperteile mit Formen verschiedener Extremophilen verschmelzen. Dabei handelt es sich um Darstellungen einzelliger Organismen, die unter extremen, lebensfeindlichen Umweltbedingungen wie extremer Kälte, Hitze, Säure oder Strahlung gedeihen. Als solche bringen sie uns Botschaften über Szenarien einer beunruhigenden Zukunft.
