Hylozoic/Desires is an artistic duo composed of artist and poet Himali Singh Soin and composer and musician David Soin Tappeser. an omniscience: an atmos-etheric, transnational, interplanetary cosmist bird opera spanning seven continents and the many verses is a new performance piece combining epic poetry and an original score, gathering the stories of the Arctic Tern (Sterna paradisaea), a bird that makes the longest migration of any creature, travelling annually from the Arctic to the Antarctic and back, equalling almost three trips to the moon and back over its thirty year lifespan. For the opening weekend of the Biennale, viewers are invited to bring their binoculars and birdwatch, while the seven performers–using air as a carrier for messages–four woodwinds, two voices and a conductor, are adorned with wings and beaks. Over the months of the Biennale’s run, a sound installation will remain in its stead.
Hylozoic/Desires è il duo artistico composto dall’artista e poetessa Himali Singh Soin e dal compositore David Soin Tappeser. an omniscience: an atmos-etheric, transnational, interplanetary cosmist bird opera spanning seven continents and the many verses è un nuovo lavoro performativo che, mettendo assieme la poesia epica e una partitura originale, raccoglie le storie della Sterna artica (Sterna paradisaea), l’uccello che compie la più lunga migrazione sulla Terra, spostandosi ogni anno dall’Artico all’Antartico e ritorno, coprendo nel corso dei suoi trent’anni di vita una distanza pari a quasi tre viaggi sulla luna e ritorno. Per il fine settimana di inaugurazione della Biennale, le persone sono invitate a portare il proprio binocolo e osservare gli uccelli, mentre i sette performer (quattro fiati, due voci e un direttore d’orchestra) – che useranno l’aria come vettore dei nostri messaggi – vengono adornati con ali e becchi. Per tutta la durata della Biennale rimarrà visitabile un’installazione sonora.
Hylozoic/Desires ist ein Künstler*innenkollektiv, bestehend aus der Künstlerin und Dichterin Himali Singh Soin und dem Komponisten und Musiker David Soin Tappeser. an omniscience: an atmos-etheric, transnational, interplanetary cosmist bird opera spanning seven continents and the many verses ist ein neues Performance-Stück, das epische Poesie und eine originelle Partitur kombiniert, um die Geschichte der Küstenseeschwalbe zu erzählen, eines Vogels, der die längste Wanderung aller Lebewesen unternimmt, indem er während seiner dreißigjährigen Lebensspanne jährlich von der Arktis in die Antarktis und zurück fliegt, was insgesamt fast drei Reisen zum Mond und zurück entspricht. Für das Eröffnungswochenende der Biennale sind die Zuschauer*innen eingeladen, ihre Ferngläser mitzubringen und die Vögel zu beobachten. Währenddessen sind die sieben Performer*innen—vier Holzbläser*innen, zwei Stimmen und ein Dirigent—mit Flügeln und Schnäbeln ausgestattet, um die Luft als Trägerin ihrer Botschaften zu nutzen. Während der gesamten Laufzeit der Biennale wird an jener Stelle eine Klanginstallation zu hören sein.
