Circolo del Suolo – A Tutto Bosco (a walk in the woods) is a project curated by Brave New Alps (Bianca Elzenbaumer, *1980, Italy and Fabio Franz, *1983 Germany) that took place on October 3 on the hill of Pilat.

The Soil Club is a multifaceted space for dialogue and exploration, dedicated to the actors of eco-social change in the Alps who act, nonetheless, with a planetary consciousness. On the occasion of the Biennale Gherdëina, the Soil Club explores the world and the interdependencies that hold it together, taking the local forest as its starting point. On a Saturday morning, therefore, scientists, artists and educators gathered in the forests around St. Ulrich to discuss how our engagement for the forest and nature can guide our understanding of the world.

With contributions by historians, lawyers, scientists, urban planners, climate researchers, artists and politicians (including Annibale Salsa, Christian Hoffmann, Filippo Favilli, Andreas Hilpold, Julia Plungger, Juri Bottura und Manola Corrent, Herwig Prinoth, Sofia Set, Antje Majewski, Gregor Prugger and others), in collaboration with the EURAC Research Centre Bolzano (Institute of Federalism, Institute of Alpine Environment), the South-Tyrolean Museum of Natural Science, and in connection with the project Sculpture Forest Sanctuary by Antje Majewski the following subjects were put up for discussion: common/collective forest management, the forest as a legal entity, forest biodiversity, soil life, interdependence and the invisible aspects of ecological connections, the forest and climate degradation, energy sources and forests, forest management, wilderness education.

Brave New Alps is a collective for the investigation of communal goods that combines methods of design research with approaches of radical pedagogy, of conflict mediation and of DIY in order to include people in the discussion and a rethinking process in social, political and ecological questions. Alpine Community Economies is a research project initiated in 2019, in the context of Brave New Alps, as a collaboration between Bianca Elzenbaumer and Fabio Franz and sponsored by the European Union through a Marie-Slokodowska-Curie individual grant (in collaboration with EURAC Research). It experiments with communal goods and explores the legal and organisational framework that can support an eco-social design practice that wants to operate beyond the market, i.e. outside the conventional customer-designer framework.

“Circolo del Suolo – A Tutto Bosco” è un progetto curato da Brave New Alps (Bianca Elzenbaumer, *1980, Italia e Fabio Franz, * 1983, Germania), che si è svolto al maso Pilat.

Il Circolo del Suolo è uno spazio poliedrico di dialogo e di esplorazione, dedicato agli attori del cambiamento eco-sociale che si trovano nelle Alpi, ma che agiscono con una coscienza planetaria. In Val Gardena il Circolo del Suolo si è rivolto al mondo e alle sue relazioni di interdipendenza prendendo come punto di partenza il bosco. Trascorrendo il sabato mattina nel bosco intorno a Ortisei insieme a adulti e bambini, a esperti, artisti ed educatori, si è dialogato su come l’impegno verso il bosco e la natura possano direzionare la nostra comprensione del mondo. 

Grazie anche ai contributi di storici, avvocati, scienziati, urbanisti, ricercatori climatici, artisti e politici (tra cui Annibale Salsa, Christian Hoffmann, Filippo Favilli, Andreas Hilpold, Julia Plungger, Juri Bottura e Manola Corrent, Herwig Prinoth, Sofia Set, Antje Majewski, Gregor Prugger e altri), in collaborazione con il Centro di Ricerca EURAC di Bolzano (Istituto per l’ Ambiente Alpino, Istituto per lo Sviluppo Regionale) e il Museo di Scienze Naturali dell’Alto Adige e in relazione al progetto “Sculpture Forest Sanctuary” di Antje Majewski, durante la giornata ci si è confrontati sui seguenti temi: la gestione comune e collettiva dei boschi, il bosco come entità giuridica, la biodiversità forestale, la vita del suolo, l’interdipendenza e gli aspetti invisibili delle connessioni ecologiche, il degrado forestale e climatico, le fonti energetiche e i boschi, la gestione forestale, l’educazione alla natura.

Brave New Alps è un collettivo di ricerca sui beni comuni che combinando metodologie di design research con approcci tipici della pedagogia radicale, della mediazione dei conflitti e del DIY, coinvolge le persone nel discutere e ripensare temi sociali, politici e ambientali. Alpine Community Economies è un progetto di ricerca, nato nel 2019 in seno a Brave New Alps dalla collaborazione tra Bianca Elzenbaumer e Fabio Franz e finanziato dall’Unione Europea attraverso una Marie Slokodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship (in collaborazione con Eurac Research), che sperimenta sui beni comuni ed esplora il quadro giuridico e organizzativo che possa supportare una progettazione eco-sociale che operi al di fuori del mercato, cioè al di fuori del rapporto convenzionale cliente-progettista.

Circolo del Suolo – A Tutto Bosco“ (ein Waldspaziergang) ist ein von Brave New Alps (Bianca Elzenbaumer, *1980, Italien, und Fabio Franz, *1983, Deutschland) kuratiertes Projekt, das auf dem Hügel von Pilat stattfand.

Der „Circolo del Suolo“ (Erdzirkel) ist ein vielgestaltiger Raum des Dialogs und der Erkundung, welcher Akteure des ökosozialen Wandels in den Alpen involviert, deren Handeln von Achtsamkeit in Bezug auf unseren Planeten geprägt ist. Im Rahmen der Biennale Gherdëina erkundet der Soil Club die Welt und ihre wechselseitigen Beziehungen, indem er den lokalen Wald als Ausgangspunkt nimmt. So wurde gemeinsam mit Wissenschaftler*innen, Künstler*innen und Pädagog*innen an einem Samstagvormittag in den Wäldern rund um St. Ulrich darüber gesprochen, wie der Einsatz für den Wald und die Natur unser Verständnis von der Welt lenken kann.

 Dank auch der Beiträge von Historiker*innen, Jurist*innen, Wissenschaftler*innen, Stadtplaner*innen, Klimaforscher*innen, Künstler*innen und Politiker*innen (u.a. Annibale Salsa, Christian Hoffmann, Filippo Favilli, Andreas Hilpold, Julia Plungger, Juri Bottura und Manola Corrent, Herwig Prinoth, Sofia Set, Antje Majewski, Gregor Prugger u.a.), in Zusammenarbeit mit dem EURAC-Forschungszentrum in Bozen (Institut für Alpine Umwelt, Institut für Regionalentwicklung), dem Südtiroler Museum für Naturwissenschaften und in Verbindung mit dem Projekt „Sculpture Forest Sanctuary“ von Antje Majewski, wurden folgende Themen diskutiert: gemeinsame und kollektive Waldbewirtschaftung, der Wald als Rechtspersönlichkeit, Biodiversität des Waldes, Bodenleben, Interdependenz und unsichtbare Aspekte ökologischer Verbindungen, Wald- und Klimadegradation, Energiequellen und Wälder, Waldbewirtschaftung, Naturerziehung.

Brave New Alps ist ein Kollektiv zur Erforschung von gemeinschaftlichen Gütern, das Methoden der Designforschung mit Ansätzen der radikalen Pädagogik, der Konfliktmediation und des DIY verbindet, um Menschen in die Diskussion und das Umdenken in sozialen, politischen und ökologischen Fragen einzubeziehen. Alpine Community Economies ist ein Forschungsprojekt, das 2019 im Rahmen von Brave New Alps aus der Zusammenarbeit zwischen Bianca Elzenbaumer und Fabio Franz entstanden ist und von der Europäischen Union durch ein Marie-Slokodowska-Curie-Individualstipendium (in Zusammenarbeit mit EURAC Research) finanziert wird.
