"The rising star" - by Philipp Messner is part of a group of works made of composite oxidised aluminium plates that adopt simple, symbolic and archetypal forms, in this case that of a star. The sculptor often takes symbolic geometries such as the cross, the circle, the triangle or the wheel to help rigid elements and fluid forms communicate with each other, conceiving each work as a living, breathing, moving or still organism, tilted at different scales. These constructions enter the stage as three-dimensional elements that assume a dynamic equilibrium, disrupting spatiality the moment the iron and aluminium spikes take hold of the air and slice it as if with a knife. The work presents itself as a challenge to emptiness with its immense nature, sometimes becoming threatening and sometimes ready for any spatial adventure.

As is the case for most of his production, Messner wants to reflect on the image and its placement in space, challenging the mechanisms of visual perception in the process of two-dimensional deconstruction and three-dimensional reconstruction. The mirroring and reflective surfaces of his works lead the viewer into a flow of spatial relationships, and include within them his physical and bodily presence.

“The rising star” - di Philipp Messner fa parte di un gruppo di lavori assemblati con lastre di alluminio ossidato che pren-de in prestito forme semplici, simboliche e archetipiche, in questo caso una stella. Lo scultore si affida spesso a geometrie simboliche, come la croce, il cerchio, il triango-lo, la ruota, per far dialogare elementi rigidi e forme fluide, concependo ogni opera come un organismo vivente che respira, si muove o sta fermo, declinato in diversi ordini di grandezza. Queste strutture entrano in scena come ele-menti tridimensionali che assumono un equilibrio dinami-co, mettendo a soqquadro la spazialità nel momento in cui le punte di ferro e di alluminio afferrano l’aria e la tagliano come un coltello fendente. L’opera si pone come una sfida al vuoto, con la sua incommensurabile natura, che a volte si fa minacciosa e altre volte è disponibile a qualunque av-ventura spaziale.

Come nella maggior parte della sua produzione, Messner vuol riflettere sull’immagine e sulla sua collocazione nello spazio, sfidando i meccanismi della percezione visiva nel processo di decostruzione bidimensionale e ricostruzione tridimensionale. Le superfici specchianti e riflettenti dei suoi lavori introducono lo spettatore in questo flusso di relazioni spaziali che caratterizzano la percezione dell’opera, inclu-dendone all’interno la presenza fisica e corporea.

„The rising star” - von Philipp Messner ist Teil einer Gruppe von Arbeiten aus zusammengesetzten oxidierten Aluminiumplatten, die schlichte, symbolische und archetypische Formen übernehmen, in diesem Falle die eines Sterns. Der Bildhauer nimmt oft symbolische Geometrien wie das Kreuz, den Kreis, das Dreieck oder das Rad zu Hilfe, um starre Elemente und flüssige Formen miteinander kommunizieren zu lassen, wobei er jedes Werk als einen leben-den, atmenden, sich bewegenden oder stillstehenden Organismus konzipiert, in verschiedenen Größenordnungen geneigt. Diese Konstruktionen treten als dreidimensionale Elemente auf die Bühne, die ein dynamisches Gleichgewicht annehmen, wobei sie die Räumlichkeit in dem Moment, in dem die Eisen- und Aluminiumspitzen die Luft ergreifen und sie wie mit einem Messer zerschneiden, durcheinander bringen. Das Werk stellt sich mit ihrer unermesslichen Natur, die manchmal bedrohlich wird und manchmal zu jedem räumlichen Abenteuer bereit ist, als eine Herausforderung der Leere dar.

Wie dies für den größten Teil seiner Produktion der Fall ist, will Messner über das Bild und dessen Aufstellung im Raum nachdenken, und dabei die Mechanismen der visuellen Wahrnehmung im Prozess der zweidimensionalen Dekonstruktion und dreidimensionalen Neukonstruktion herausfordern. Die spiegelnden und reflektierenden Oberflächen seiner Werke führen den Betrachter in einen Fluss räumlicher Beziehungen hinein, und schließen in ihrem Innern seine physikalische und körperliche Präsenz mit ein.
